Driven: 2026 Hyundai Nexo Tries to Gas Us Up for a Second Time The new Hyundai Nexo marks a big moment for hydrogen fuel-cell tech. Hyundai says it already sold nearly 7,000 of the new Nexo vehicles globally from June to August, which is more than four times what its first fuel-cell vehicle (FCV) achieved in the same time frame. This shouldn't be a complete surprise, as Hyundai has been developing this tech since 1998, shortly before debuting its first FCV system prototype. Its last major push created the first-generation Nexo, a fuel-cell electric vehicle with a good range and a smooth ride, but a barely there refueling infrastructure hamstrung its US sales, which topped out at a paltry 208 units in 2020.
