Pininfarina's latest concept a glimpse at the future of EVs

Pininfarina Goes Double-Donk with New e-LUV PURA Vision Concept      Pininfarina's latest concept lands somewhere in between a sports coupe and an SUV—a popular body style these days. And, of course, it's electric.    The company took the wraps off the PURA Vision e-LUV concept, which stands for "electric luxury utility vehicle." And on its face it offers a mix of quite a few modern design trends—including not only gullwing doors, but also suicide doors.      "PURA Vision is the bridge from our present to an exciting new chapter in the history of Automobili Pininfarina," said Paolo Dellachà, Automobili Pininfarina CEO. "In our fifth year, we have already celebrated our unique heritage with the introduction of the Battista Edizione Nino Farina. PURA Vision previews an exciting future and shows what can be achieved if we apply our PURA design principles to an entirely new kind of vehicle."    Putting aside the question of just how many doors are too many doors for a coupe, the e-LUV promises to be more than a design statement sitting on massive 23-inch wheels.    We'll get a closer look at this concept at The Quail in a couple of weeks, but for now, the interior gives a more telling preview of what we could see from Pininfarina, and from other luxury EVs, in the near future. READ THE FULL STORY Should The VW Beetle Return As An EV?      With the ID. Buzz on the way in 2024, VW could be taking a bit of a risk in an untested segment. After all, how many battery-electric minivans are there on the market right now—or even gas or hybrid ones for that matter? The segment has shrunk to a minimum from its heyday in the 1990s, as our tastes have increasingly turned to crossovers or SUVs.    But VW has yet another potential retro-style model it could easily produce on the same MEB platform if it chooses to do so. And it could be far more popular—and far more affordable—than the ID. Buzz.     Earlier this summer VW previewed just what an electric Beetle of the future could look like with a car featured in Miraculous: Ladybug & Cat Noir, The Movie. And the automaker actually built a concept to full scale, revealing it in Paris during the premiere of the animated film.    And it isn't even the sole electric VW in the movie.     Is this concept a realistic preview of what we could see from VW if it greenlights an electric Beetle? READ THE FULL STORY Here's What the Porsche Charging Lounge Offers           Audi may have launched the concept of a premium charging hub among the VW Group brands, opening the first such in 2021. But it's not the only brand that will see such stations.       A few days ago Porsche opened its inaugural Charging Lounge in Germany, giving the EV world a glimpse of what could be very commonplace in a few years. At least in Europe.    The station itself features six 300-kW DC fast-charging stalls and four 22-kW AC charging points. And drivers whose cars are in the system may not even need a pass of any sort to enter—the station uses a license plate recognition system. But even if they're not registered, using the MyPorche app is another way to get in.    The main attraction, however, is the luxurious interior stocked with food and snacks, not too dissimilar from an airline lounge.    While the first station has just opened, it won't be the only one as Porsche has more in the works.     The question remains if we will ever see these luxury charging hubs in the states.
