Polestar 5 Will Use This Unique Type of Battery
The Polestar 5 won't get here for a while, but the EV maker's electric flagship is already shaping up to be a breath of fresh air when it comes to exterior design, while also offering plenty of performance with 884 hp on tap.
This week Polestar shared one other interesting technical tidbit about the upcoming four-door GT. The model will use pouch-type battery cells produced by South Korea's SK On, manufactured via a Z-folding technique, as the company calls it, that also makes them far safer than other types of EV batteries.
"The separator zig-zags through the anode and cathode and wraps them with perfect alignment, and therefore allows complete separation," the company notes. "This way, the possibility of the anode and cathode coming into contact on the outer edges is reduced fundamentally."
For car buyers, this battery design promises fast recharge times, a long range, and efficient discharge thanks to one other technical aspect.
