Don Yenko and his former Yenko Chevrolet dealership building at 575 West Pike Street in the borough of Canonsburg, Pa., were memorialized on Sept. 16 by a new plaque erected there by the Jefferson College Historical Society. The plaque records the importance of Don Yenko and his Yenko Chevrolet dealership and reads, "Yenko Chevrolet was founded in 1947 by Frank & Martha Yenko. Their son, Don, became a franchisee in 1956, and soon formed Yenko Sportscars Inc., selling high performance parts and Corvette racing equipment. Don teamed up with Gulf Oil Research Racing, driving Corvettes, making Yenko known worldwide. In 1965, Don used the COPO program to purchase 100 Corvairs naming them Yenko 'Stingers" modified to race. COPO was used again to create 'Yenko Supercars' on Camaro & Chevelle platforms. Los Angeles Auto Show to feature Kevin Hart's impressive collection The Kevin Hart Kollection at LA Auto Show will showcase 11 of the megastar's prized vehicles including muscle cars and late-model Ferraris November 17-16. LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Auto Show® will host the first public appearance of the Kevin Hart Kollection. Open to the public from November 17-26, show visitors will be able to view 11 of Hart's personal favorites, all of which were custom-built to his specifications. An entire showcase hall at the Los Angeles Convention Center will be devoted to the Kollection, allowing attendees to be immersed in Kevin Hart's world. This will be the first time the comedian, actor and entrepreneur has invited the public to see his private ensemble of cars, which he has been building for more than a decade. See More Quirky is Better: The Saab Sonett II The Saab Sonett II is a small, fiberglass-bodied two-seat sports car powered by the quirky three-cylinder two-stroke Saab engine that revs like an electric drill and is smoother and more powerful than one would guess. The early Sonetts are rare for the simple reason that the company didn't build a whole lot of them. "The Standard Catalog of Imported Cars" says that 60 Sonett II models were produced during late 1966, and another 455 in 1967. A former Saab-Scania engineer who once owned a Sonett II reports that, "The original Sonett debuted in 1966 as the Sonett II with the triple-carb, two-stroke engine with oil injection. Something like 28 were cobbled together before production of the 1967 model began. In all, 258 strokers were built, mostly all 1967s. All were oil-injected using a separate tank under the hood."
