Car of the Week: 1959 Olds F-88 Mk. III concept

There is a very old adage that says, "Rank has its privileges." While true, having had a decades-long record of success helps to amplify the privileges of rank.

Upon reaching GM's mandatory retirement age of 65, Harley Earl retired from the company, but did not simply receive the standard gold watch for his years of service. Instead, he was gifted an Oldsmobile concept car built especially for him: The 1959 F-88 Mk. III.

We'd Buy That: 1956 International Pickup

65 years of patina and the attitude to match. We'd buy that 1956 International pickup.

There is so much to love about this noble steed. It's everything a guy could ever want in a ratty old pickup.

Just the fact that it's a 1956 International is good enough. John Wayne would be proud to drive it. Factory four-wheel drive!! (insert cave man noises here). It's got decent tires, some new plugs and other maintenance stuff, and somebody replaced the glass, which is a definite plus. It's a four-speed with a granny gear, twin-stick transfer case, 3/4-ton rear axle ... and the clincher, it's had "65 years of patina" clear coated! We love that! Preserve that patina!
