Welcome to the Daily 5 report for Monday, Jan. 12.
Investing large amounts of capital into a facilities update is always a big decision for retailers. So far, Acura's latest program is winning converts.
Nearly 30 percent of Honda Motor Co. luxury brand's 274 U.S. dealerships have adopted or are implementing the new Gen IV facility design, with 14 stores under construction this year, Gail Kachadourian Howe reports.
The updated look replaces the previous design's blue, silver and wood grain aesthetic and large tower signage with a white-and-black color scheme, expansive windows and open areas featuring desks and a fireplace. Alan Dibre, chairman of Acura's National Dealer Advisory Board, said the new design resembles an Apple Store.
Dibre's Acura of Ramsey store in New Jersey is among the first Gen IV facilities in the New York tri-state area. He started renovations in mid-2025 and expects completion in March, after investing more than $3 million in the project. Acura introduced the Gen IV program to dealers in 2020, with the first dealership completed in 2022. The brand is not requiring dealers to update their stores or offering financial incentives to those who do, according to Dibre.
The design aims to mirror what Acura calls "the precision-crafted experience" to match the brand's product lineup and styling direction. Other automakers, including Ford and Subaru, have recently launched similar facility redesign programs.
That's all for now. Have a great rest of your day.
