Welcome to the Daily 5 report for Tuesday, Jan. 6.
At last year's CES, Sony Honda Mobility generated buzz when it showed a near-production version of the Afeela 1, a big-ticket, high-tech electric sedan.
Fast-forward a year: The joint venture between Sony and Honda says it's ready to start deliveries late this year — and it premiered an "early-stage prototype" SUV that will serve as the inspiration for its second model, John Irwin reports from this year's CES in Las Vegas.
Afeela 1 deliveries were initially slated to start in early 2026, but market conditions forced the company to push them back, said Shugo Yamaguchi, CEO of Sony Honda Mobility of America. The pushback was not the result of development delays, he said.
Meanwhile, details about the Afeela Prototype 2026 SUV were scarce, but it has a significantly larger footprint than the Afeela 1 and shares major exterior design elements with it.
