Welcome to the Daily 5 report for Monday, Jan. 5. Happy New Year!
Large percentages of dealerships distrust Nissan, Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep-Ram, Infiniti and Volkswagen, and at least half the industry expected locations representing those brands would lose value in 2026, according to survey data from Kerrigan Advisors.
Other brands, such as Toyota, garnered significant trust from more than half of dealers, and their locations were overwhelmingly expected to hold or improve in value.
The bearishness about the distrusted brands runs contrary to the generally favorable outlook shown in the 2025 Kerrigan Dealer Survey.
Most dealers predicted their stores would produce similar profits and be worth the same in 2026 as in 2025, and the percentages who felt profits and valuations would improve rose by double digits to outnumber those expecting declines.
"I think that may be one of the most important pieces of this analysis that dealers are now significantly more positive than they were in 2024 about valuation," Erin Kerrigan, managing director of Kerrigan Advisors, told Automotive News. "And that is driven by their expectation on profits, which also saw [a] real swing from last year."
