Welcome to the Daily 5 report for Tuesday, April 8.
The 2025 New York International Auto Show is coming up next week and Carly Schaffner has this thorough preview in our report today.
This year, Hyundai, Genesis and Kia will share the stage with such volume brands as Volkswagen and Subaru, which are scheduled to showcase new or freshened vehicles on the April 16 press day that precedes the event's public opening, our story says. Also on tap: Toyota is unveiling a marketing campaign and Maserati is planning a business update and product walk-around.
"It will definitely be a louder show compared with what we saw at the Los Angeles Auto Show last year, and this year's Chicago Auto Show was also pretty quiet," Robby DeGraff, manager of product and consumer insights for AutoPacific, told Automotive News.

At long last, this story today by Riley Hodder tells us with fresh data when electric vehicles offer their maximum range.
July and August are the best months to drive EVs no matter where you live across 48 states and the District of Columbia, Hodder wrote, citing weather and environmental data firm Vaisala Xweather's EV range report. Average EV range exceeded 250 miles from June to September last year, according to the report. In July and August, the average range reached 267 miles. Although heat can hurt battery performance, freezing temperatures are significantly worse for EVs, Andrew Garberson, head of growth and research at Recurrent, told Automotive News.
"When we talk about extreme heat, we're often talking like 70 degrees to 90 degrees, which is a 20-degree difference," he said. "But when you're talking about extreme cold … you're talking 70 degrees to 20 degrees, a 50-degree difference."
Meanwhile, on the tariff front, President Donald Trump's trade war with China appears to be picking up steam as the Chinese vow to "fight to the end" after the latest tariff threat. And Tesla CEO Elon Musk's festering relationship with Trump trade counselor Peter Navarro also worsened today with Musk calling Navarro a "moron." This came after older brother and Tesla board member Kimbal Musk blasted Trump's tariffs on social media Monday.

From our Cars & Concepts coverage, check out General Motors' futuristic Chevrolet Corvette electric hypercar concept. It offers design touches inspired by aviation — and it may be just the first concept GM shows this year, Lindsay VanHulle reports in this story. The Corvette concept, which the automaker said is not intended for production, was an advanced design study by a team based at a new design studio in England, VanHulle wrote. The story tells us what else is ahead for GM concepts.
That's it for now. Have a great rest of your day.
