VW Previews Its Most Affordable EV Yet Volkswagen's development of its ID lineup dates back about a decade, but the US has received just two models so far, with Wolfsburg keeping a number of EVs in other regions, including the ID.3 hatch and the ID.7 sedan and station wagon. Now, the German EV maker is planning an even smaller EV, targeting a starting price of €20,000 ($20,700), while feeling pressure from Chinese automakers in Europe. And it could be called the ID.1. The move is part of VW's return to its core, affordable offerings, after years of experimentation in premium segments. But would such an EV make sense in North America? |
