Hyundai Ioniq 5 Electric Crossover Descends from Thin Air In the closing days of 2024, a team from Hyundai Motor India Limited set a new Guinness World Record for the greatest altitude change by an electric car. Over the course of two weeks the team drove the Ioniq 5 from an altitude of over 19,000 feet in the Himalayas to the south of India, arriving at a point just a few feet below sea level. And Hyundai didn't even use the new XRT model. Among other things, the trip took the Ioniq 5 across most of India, driving from the mountains in the north to the southern tip of the subcontinent, demonstrating the Ioniq 5's long distance driving ability. But finding charging in the Himalayas and throughout the whole trip was not difficult, it turns out. Here are some surprising things from this expedition. |
