2025 Porsche Macan EV Adds a Rear-Drive Entry Point The battery-electric Porsche Taycan sedan quickly found a spot for itself in what became a very busy segment, facing plenty of pressure from the likes of Lucid, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and others. And now it's the turn of the electric Macan, with the model arriving this year in dual- and single-motor flavors. But will there be an affordable entry point? Instead, EV owners and charging station builders alike have prioritized faster charging the old fashioned way—via cables. But there are now signs that wireless charging for EV models could approach DC fast-charging speeds, and require relatively few hardware additions to a vehicle. A team from Oak Ridge National Laboratory has recently charged a Porsche Taycan at 270 kW, all without using a charging cable. But can this technology ever go mainstream in the era of ever-faster charging stations? |
