VW ID.GTI Concept Previews the Electric GTI Volkswagen's ID.GTI was one of the most talked-about concepts at the IAA Mobility show this year in Munich, Germany, pairing the ID.2all hatch with more aggressive bodywork. In the process, Wolfsburg effectively previewed what an electric Golf GTI could look like in the near future, at least in Europe, as Volkswagen fills out its electric lineup. "In the future, there will also be sporty and emotive GTI versions of selected models from the all-electric ID. family," the automaker said. "The ID.GTI Concept show car presented for the first time at the IAA Mobility in Munich provides a concrete insight into how Volkswagen will transport the iconic GTI label into the electric future." It's worth noting that Volkswagen has kept the ID.3 hatch in Europe, bringing the ID.4 electric SUV here first. So Wolfsburg clearly has some reservations about offering electric hatchbacks here. The ID.2all, likewise, hasn't been confirmed for the US yet. But is the ID.GTI something we could see stateside, after models like the ID.7 sedan and the ID.Buzz MPV arrive in the coming months? |

BMW Vision Neue Klasse Debuts at IAA Munich Showing BMW's Future BMW used the IAA Mobility show in Munich to take the wraps off the Neue Klasse concept, borrowing a name from its past that relaunched its model range in the 1960s with cars like the 2002. The Neue Klasse concept of 2023 certainly pays homage to the design of its influential cars of the past, complete with a "shark nose" front fascia, while also moving the automaker forward into the future. "The design of the Neue Klasse is typically BMW and so progressive it looks like we skipped a model generation," said Adrian van Hooydonk, head of BMW Group Design. Among other things, the Neue Klasse cars promise 30% faster charging and 30% more range, according to BMW, with the automaker touting the future lineup as the biggest investment in the history of the company. But is this particular Neue Klasse concept a preview of a production model that we're likely to see from BMW in the coming years? Read on to find out more about this new direction for the automaker. |

10 Weird and Wonderful Cars We'll Never Get Here The IAA Mobility show in Germany has seen no shortage of major EV debuts this week. The Munich event has played host to a variety of tech startups and automakers trying to guess what comes next in the world of vehicles of all types. Of course, quite a few of these EV debuts are destined to stay on the other side of the Atlantic, but it's still fascinating to see just what cars Europe will be getting relatively soon. The MG Cyberster, for instance, will pick up where the last MG roadsters of the 1990s left off, albeit with an electric drivetrain. It will also be one of the first electric roadsters on the market in Europe. Does this sound like something the US could use? Read on to see all the other debuts from the IAA Mobility. |
