2024 Volkswagen ID.5 Sticks with Sensibility The Volkswagen ID.4 may have opened a new chapter for Wolfsburg in the states, but it's not the sole ID-badged model on sale globally right now. In fact, there are several ID models that we don't get here, and recently we got a chance to try one of them on Volkswagen's home turf. The ID.5, of course, is the ID.4's coupe-shaped sibling, and it features Volkswagen's new AP550 motor that we'll see in the ID.7 sedan, which is headed our way next year. But there are a few other items in this European-market model that we got a chance to test out that are worth noting when it comes to Volkswagen models that will be here soon. |

Another Baby Mercedes G-Class Is In The Works When it comes to electric SUVs, Mercedes already has quite a lineup—certainly more than Tesla—with the EQB, EQE, and EQS SUVs already on sale, and the EQG coming up soon. But the automaker also wants to expand one other part of its lineup, focusing on the G-Class as the starting point. Yet another boxy SUV is in the works and it will be a smaller version of the G-Class, slated to be offered with a choice of an electric or an internal combustion drivetrain. Why is Mercedes interested in such a model, even though the EQB already exists? The automaker likely feels there is room for the G-Class family to grow, now that the G-Class itself is now plusher and a more expensive to get into. This means a smaller but boxy model that still offers plenty of off-road skills could see plenty of demand all over the world. Here's when we could see the baby G-Class. |

Honda Motocompacto Electrifies The Motocompo Even if you've never seen a Honda City or a Honda Today, you've probably seen the foldable two-stroke scooter that could be stowed in the trunk. Dubbed the Motocompo, the boxy scooter is something of an engineering marvel, not to mention a collector's item. Now, the Motocompo is coming back as the Motocompacto, and of course it will be electric. And it also looks like something Apple might have designed. The suitcase e-scooter will offer a top speed of 15 mph as well as a respectable range, but it may not be for everyone's commute. The good news is that charging time won't take too long, so one could charge the scooter at work from a wall outlet. Here's how much the Motocompacto will cost. |
