2024 BMW i7 M70 xDrive Breaks Ground in a Big Way
With a 0-to-60 mph sprint time of 3.5 seconds, it's safe to say that the new BMW i7 M70 xDrive is one of the fastest 7-Series we've ever driven.
But it is also one of the heaviest, with a curb weight of 5929 lbs, and one of the most expensive, sitting alongside Alpinas (but below armored and stretched versions of the sedan).
For comparison, the lightest E38-generation 7-Series of the second half of the 1990s (and the car many still picture when someone says 7-Series) was just 3770 lbs. But it was also far slower, even in V12 form.
We mention the E38 for a reason. The E38 is the 7-Series that the new car is primarily styled after, at least if you squint hard enough, and it's also the car that is still considered by many to be the high point of 7-Series exterior design.
In the age of electrification, the very first mass-produced electric 7-Series is looking to the greatest hits for inspiration as it seeks new heights in performance.
But numbers aren't everything.
To find out just what the latest and most electric 7-Series will offer buyers, we headed to Portugal to try the EV that is bound to spark more heated discussion over the next few years than the E38's successor.
