The 2024 Kia EV9 Ushers In Over-the-Air Options Kia took the wraps off the EV9 earlier this month, with the largest EV to date staying close to the style previewed by the concept car shown in 2021. Quite a few of the details on the latest addition to Kia's electric range have now been revealed, with the automaker set to offer the new model with a choice of rear- or all-wheel drive layouts. What can buyers look forward to in the Kia EV9? A 76.1-kWh battery pack in the base model, for starters, which will send 214 hp to the rear wheels. Buyers will also be able to opt for the larger 99.8-kWh battery pack in the long range RWD model that will trade some performance for a range of 336 miles, at least in the WLTP cycle. AWD models will be on the menu as well coupled with the larger 99.8-kWh battery pack, giving the top version just under 400 hp, with an optional Boost feature shaving a slice off the EV's 0-62 mph sprint time. Read on to find out more details about this new electric SUV, including the OTA options.

Is Electrify Expo the Car Show of the New Millennium? As traditional auto shows continue to evolve, seeing the biggest changes in decades, the concept of the auto show is changing as well. For one thing, the Consumer Electronics Show is now an auto show of sorts. But what if there were several events like that in different parts of the country, just for EVs? That's one of the goals of the Electrify Expo, which got its start in 2021 with three separate events across the country. The very next year, it doubled its attendance with a total of five events. For 2023, there will be seven of these expos around the country, with up to 200,000 estimated to attend. And they won't be just about electric cars. "Electrify Expo gives us the opportunity to educate in-market consumers on our portfolio of electrified vehicle options in a family friendly and festival-like setting, and it has quickly become a vital part of the greater Lexus auto show schedule," said Vinay Shahani, VP, Lexus Marketing. Read on to find out more about this series of events, and to find one near you.

This Startup Wants to Build Small Commercial EVs Just how basic and inexpensive can commercial EVs eventually become? That's what Helixx, a UK-based startup, plans to find out with a range of four EVs based on a single platform but aimed at different customers. The company has designed four no-frills EVs dubbed CARGO, TRUK, RIDE, and TUK, aimed at construction businesses, last-mile delivery, as well as ride-hailing companies. The four EVs are aimed at developing countries, but more importantly, they're designed to be built locally in small factories dubbed Helixx Mobility Hubs, that could be set up in record time. "For the past four years, we have researched the market to ensure the creation of sustainable zero-emission vehicles that meet the demands and needs of the world's developing economies," said Steve Pegg, Helixx CEO and co-founder. Read on to find out more about this project.
