Hot off the press for the month of June, Hemmings State of the Hobby is a finger on the pulse of the collector car world. Read on for info on what cars are hot, Hemmings news, and some helpful tips to sell your ride. |
In June 2023 Hemmings auction submissions rose 6% year over year, while Classified Listings grew 26%. Launched Auctions climbed 3% and overall vehicles sold in auctions were up 9% (including post-auction Make Offer sales). Overall Hemmings Marketplace digital traffic surged 72%." |

June continued to show that 2023 is proving to be a changing year in the collector car marketplace. Average sale prices at all auctions are flat to a bit down, but not dramatically so—there is still plenty of value in collector cars and desirability for many models remains strong. Interestingly, total vehicle volume is up and we have seen that here at Hemmings Marketplace, where Auction and Make Offer submissions and listings remain well ahead of last year." –Hemmings Auctions Operations Director, Terry Shea. |

| Collectability Callout: Mercedes-Benz R107 Roadster |
The Mercedes-Benz R107 roadster (and the less commonly seen C107 fixed hardtop coupe) remained in production from 1972 through the 1989 model year. That long product cycle was a testament to the car's enduring appeal—an appeal that remains today with collectors. While Europe and other parts of the world had some models with inline-sixes, all U.S.-spec 107s had V8 engines that varied in size depending on the model year.
Overall, the market has been pretty steady for all SLs the past three years, remarkably so, which is somewhat expected for a vehicle that has been a collector car almost since production started. Many of these cars were garaged, and fortunately, Mercedes-Benzes from the era have a well-deserved reputation for durability and longevity. Looking for a Mercedes R107 Roadster? |

With a 3.2-liter, 240-horsepower VR6 engine, six-speed manual, a host of suspension upgrades, all-wheel drive and a tight interior with König seats, the R32 was a rally car straight from the factory. It was a GTI on steroids. Values have never really dropped to corner used-car-lot special of the day, but like almost any other desirable model, the low-mileage, unmolested examples, that have escaped VW enthusiasts touches, will bring in the best profits. |

Sale of the Month: New in Crate GM Big-Block LS7 Engine |
While Hemmings is front of mind for collector vehicle sales, did you know it's also a great medium for selling rare auto parts? Case in point, this never-before-run GM LS7 crate engine sold in June. Considered by many to be the holy grail of big-block crate engines, this example was pristinely preserved, sold well, and is ready to gulp 100 octane fuel in the new owner's ride of choice. |

Auction Tip of the Month: Stay Engaged with Potential Buyers |
Oftentimes, we see success for sellers who remain engaged with the bidders and watchers. It's why we allow public questions and comments on each auction listing. Even for a car that may not be the best example of its kind, or even the most desirable model, sellers who respond promptly and answer honestly are the type of sellers that encourage confidence in bidders.
