2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6 Insists Sedans Still Have a Home The Hyundai Ioniq 6 is the first real challenger to the Tesla Model 3, which turns six years old later this summer. The South Korean automaker's answer to Tesla's sales hit doesn't feel too late to the party, however, arriving just when interest in EVs is finally going mainstream. Can it upstage the Model 3 in range and performance—not to mention comfort, flexibility, user interface, coefficient of drag, interior finish, trunk space, and price? After all, Tesla's midsize sedan is the standard-bearer in every category, having had a lock on the segment for so long. The answer to coefficient of drag is a resounding yes, as the Ioniq 6 weighs in at 0.22 compared to the Model 3's 0.23 cD. And the interior, as we discovered, is no less interesting than the sedan's adventurous exterior, which was influenced by streamlined cars of the 1930s. When it comes to the starting price it's clear that the Ioniq 6 will be one of the more affordable electric sedans, as a number of other automakers with EVs in their lineups have yet to field something of this size. And it may be enough for Hyundai to divert enough sales from Austin's midsize offering, even given all the recent Tesla price cuts. Read our full review of the Ioniq 6. |
