Keeping "Big Bird's" legacy intact, second owner remains faithful to 1962 Ford Thunderbird's original owner's special connection.
Nell Richmond really loved her 1962 Thunderbird. She bought it new right off the car carrier back in '62, and the Bay Area socialite and car enthusiast kept it as long as she could — 57 years to be exact.
She finally sold the car two years ago at age 92, and she made sure it went to a guy who loved the car just as much as she did. Fellow T-Bird lover Gary Grainger, of Modesto, Calif., became the lucky second owner. Grainger has since moved to the Midwest, to the tiny town of Iola, Wis., and he brought Richmond's prized '62 with him. He ordered "Nell 62" collector plates for the car as an ongoing salute to Richmond, who passed away earlier this year. The two shared a love of nice cars — especially the gorgeous Deep Sea Green T-Bird convertible.
Many recognize the name Menard from the building supply chain of stores of the same name. What many do not know is that Larry and Dawn Menard were world-class collectors of classic automobiles and automobilia. VanDerBrink Auctions will be putting the Larry and Dawn Menard collection up for sale October 2nd in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin.
The Segerstrom Shelby Event Center (SSEC), which showcases one of the largest and premier Shelby collections in the world, will be hosting its Grand Opening on Thursday, October 14 from 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
For all its faults, why do we still love Craigslist? Because of finds like this! What car guy (or woman) with a pulse doesn't swoon over a 1941 Buick four-door convertible! In bright red, no less.
We found this glorious phaeton in an Alabama Craigslist ad, but the car is actually in Spotsylvania County, Virginia! We dunno what somebody is doing advertising a Virginia car in Alabama, and frankly we don't care. We'd drive to either locale to get a chance to grab this baby.
