Perhaps the most significant C1 Corvette had several important lives. 1954 Corvette proposal prototype restored and delighting car lovers once again. This one-of-a-kind "proposal car" is an integral part of the Corvette story, with a fascinating history that dates to early 1953—well before the first production models rolled off the assembly line in Flint, Mich. Prior to series Corvette production, which commenced on June 30, 1953, Chevrolet built approximately 15 hand-laid fiberglass Corvette bodies intended for experimental or Motorama use. These hand-built show cars were not assigned standard VINs, but were instead referred to by internal codes. One such code was EX-52, the first Corvette prototype unveiled to the public at New York's Waldorf Astoria Hotel in January 1953. Like other General Motors experimental and factory custom cars, all of these show cars additionally received Shop Order (S.O.) numbers. Among the known S.O. numbers are those for some of the 1954 GM Motorama show cars based on 1954 Corvettes: the Corvair (S.O. 2071), Nomad (S.O. 1954) and hardtop (S.O. 2000). As documented in internal GM memos, many of these show cars were destroyed or reused for other projects and then destroyed. As a result, precious few of these Motorama-era prototypes survive today. |

Carlisle, PA – 2024 has been an amazing year in Carlisle. As part of the 50th Anniversary celebration for Carlisle Events, Carlisle Auctions hosted a pair of events, concluding the year with its Fall Carlisle Collector Car Auction. The Fall Auction, held October 3-4 at the Carlisle Expo Center, wrapped up auction season with a bang, selling 50% of all available lots and grossing $3.3 million in sales. Top-selling lots accounted for just over $312,000 and included a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air ($89,000), a 1968 Corvette ($75,600), a 1965 Pontiac GTO ($74,000), and a 1967 Chevelle ($73,440). Best of all, the demand for all things truck during the All-Truck Hour has resulted in the expansion of the theme for Carlisle-based auctions in 2025. Now, each day of an auction will include an hour dedicated to nothing but trucks. |

1000 Miglia Warm Up USA returns to Middleburg, Virginia region on October 24 to 26, 2024. MIDDLEBURG, Va. - The 1000 Miglia that has traversed Italy each year, has long been known as the world's most iconic and historic auto race. It has also been hailed as "the most beautiful auto race in the world." Since 2018, the 1000 Miglia team has held the 1000 Miglia Warm Up USA in and around Middleburg, Virginia. The event returns this year from Wednesday, October 23 (arrival) to Sunday, October 27 (departure day). Driving days include Thursday, Oct. 24 through Saturday, Oct. 26. Up to 40 cars and their drivers will compete in two classes: the 1000 Miglia Era Class and the Post-1000 Miglia Era Class. The first is open to 1000 Miglia-eligible cars, built between 1927 and 1957, as well as significant sports and ground touring cars built during the same period; the second is open to select sports, grand touring and supercars built from 1958 to present. |
