Day 3 Highlight: A Visit to the German Museum of Technology |
The highlight of our third day will be a visit to the amazing German Museum of Technology. Founded in 1982, it is one of the most visited museums in the capital and is considered one of the leading technology museums in the world. The "raisin bomber" on the facade of the new building has become an internationally known landmark.
Located on the historic site of the Gleisdreieck transport hub and the Anhalter freight station, it invites you to take an eventful and enjoyable journey through the cultural history of technology. Covering 26,500 square meters, it offers fascinating exhibitions on aviation, shipping, rail transport, automobiles, film technology, computer history, chemistry and pharmacy and much more.
Automobiles have been part of the collection since the beginning. The backbone of the collection belonged to a local collector, who sold it to Daimler-Benz, who in turn donated it to the city. Over the course of 35 years, the exhibition of cars changed concepts and places many times. The current exhibitions look at the history of cars from various angles, like their function (racing, goods transportation, people's car, etc.) or technical attributes (origin of its engine, body style, etc.). The exhibition shows cars made in Germany, Sweden, France and so on. |
