Green with envy, a 1953 Kaiser finds the right home with a lifetime fan.
Rob Borman knew his 11-year-old self would never forgive him.
A few years back, the Aurora, Ill., resident had found the type of car — a gorgeous 1953 Kaiser Manhattan — he'd always been looking for in the car corral at the Iola Car Show in Wisconsin. But before Borman could fully talk himself into making the purchase, the car and owner disappeared.
The top sale of the auction was that of the 1938 Bugatti Type 57C Aravis 'Special Cabriolet', which stunned spectators when it sold for $6,605,000, doubling its pre-auction estimate. Ordered new for famed Bugatti racing driver Maurice Trintignant, the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance® class winner set a record for the Type 57C Aravis, delineating a new benchmark for an already rare and special breed of Bugatti.
