The Polestar 3 is finally on its way here, set to become the electric brand's flagship. Production has just started in China, and another production line will get going in South Carolina later this year. The roomy model shares a platform with the equally electric Volvo EX90, but it's not a badge-engineering exercise as the Polestar model will feature a number of important differences. We'll get not one but four different versions of the Polestar 3, all of them featuring the same battery. And the base model will actually be the long-range, dual-motor variant with 480 hp on tap.
But the situation with the $7500 credit is a little complicated. Here's how much each version of the SUV will cost, and what they will offer EV shoppers.
Despite hearing plans from Chinese automakers to launch sales in the US for over a decade now, it's actually Mexico that has gotten these brands first. And some of the vehicles sold there at the moment are quite affordable and actually compelling on paper, with their variety growing fast. The BYD Dolphin Mini, for example, starts at $21,000 and offers 190 miles of range. But another version will do 252 miles for not a lot more money: $23,000. That's not a price range we're bound to see even when the small 2024 Fiat 500e gets here later this year.
But could Chinese EVs make it stateside if they were assembled in Mexico, thereby bypassing the high import tariffs? Here's the latest on the rapidly emerging EV market south of the border.
In fact, there are a number of groups that have been protesting Tesla in Germany, some of them building camps in the woods near the plant, and not all of them have the same ideologies or tactics.
But is there a plan to prevent this sort of attack from happening again?
