Here's what EV makers have brought to CES this year

Honda Shows Two Concepts at CES, One Slated for Production

CES became an auto show quite some time ago, and the first week of January is now full of debuts that not long ago would have been unveiled in Detroit.

Automakers are now timing some of their most important EV debuts with the annual tech extravaganza in Las Vegas (which is also notably warmer than Detroit in January).

Honda, which has one EV on the way this year, brought two concepts to CES dubbed simply Space-Hub and Saloon. And both look like they could have been penned by Syd Mead for an '80s sci-fi film.

But none of this is science fiction anymore. Honda plans for the Saloon to arrive quite soon in production form, as part of a lineup dubbed the "0 Series."

Will Automated Valet EV Charging Become Commonplace?

If you've ever dreamed of dropping off your EV off at the entrance to the airport parking garage and just letting the car park itself and also charge itself, two companies are now working on just such a thing.
Bosch and VW's software arm Cariad are now testing automated valet parking along with automated valet charging, letting robots and infrastructure handle the tasks of finding a charging station and also finding a parking spot. And a lot of tech to make this happen is already a reality today.
The most difficult part, from the standpoint of hardware, isn't really the charging robots themselves but rather all the sensors inside the garage needed to communicate with an SAE Level 4 car. And taking a step back, there would first need to be enough Level 4 cars out there to make this work at scale, and all compatible with the parking infrastructure's software.
And there is yet another challenge for Bosch and Cariad to solve.

Kia to Market 3 Modular Commercial Electric Vans, and a Robotaxi

There has been no shortage of commercial EV startups with plans for custom-designed box vans and trucks, most of them aimed at last-mile delivery. But years after we first started seeing such concepts appear, it's been mostly Rivian and BrightDrop that have been able to advance them to the production stage.
Kia now wants a slice of the commercial EV market, and it brought a whole lineup of sleek and futuristic electric vans to CES. And it includes a robotaxi.
This isn't a whimsical batch of concepts, either—they're due to enter production in South Korea soon.
