Is This the Answer to Overnight Urban EV Charging? Curbside charging is nearly nonexistent in the US. But a number of companies in Europe and elsewhere have recognized that this type of charger must become more prevalent for countries that hope to achieve ZEV-only sales in the next few years. A British telecom giant has revealed one possible solution, demonstrating how it can convert Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplier, or DSLAM boxes that hold internet cable wires, into charging stations. The goal of a pilot program is to convert 600 of these boxes into charging stations in Scotland. But the potential for this retrofit program is much broader, and can effectively double the number of publicly accessible chargers in the entire UK. |
