Toyota's EV concept wave in Tokyo has something for everyone

Three quarters of the way through 2023, we've seen a grand total of one arrive stateside, and with a hiccup or two. Just where are all the others, you're probably wondering.     Toyota used the Japan Mobility Show, formerly known as the Tokyo Motor Show, to reveal just what some of those other future models could be, with the Land Cruiser Se Concept quickly igniting speculation with its chiseled, progressive design.    This concept SUV clearly embraces rhomboid shapes and 45-degree angles, featuring clean lines and a design that appears to be not all that far from a production vehicle.    With the current Toyota bZ4X occupying a smaller segment, the Land Cruiser Se appears to preview a more luxurious, three-row electric SUV that could be advantageous for the automaker to have in its lineup, at least when EV adoption rates climb a bit north.    But when could we see something like this on sale? READ THE FULL STORY 2025 Mini Countryman SE All4 Is All About Adventure      Mini is serious about going electric by the end of the decade, even if its first mass-market BEV offering stateside was a little underwhelming when it came to range.     The 2025 Mini Countryman SE All4 should change that, with an all-new design and a relatively large battery for its size. And it will also offer quite a bit of power, promising nothing short of 313 hp and 365 lb-ft of torque.    It certainly sounds like Mini will have a serious challenger to the upcoming Volvo EX30, if it can roughly match its starting price.     Read on to find out the expected range and other details of this new model. READ THE FULL STORY Should This Be Toyota's First EV Truck?      Not content with revealing just SUV and crossover concepts, Toyota brought an electric truck concept to the Japan Mobility Show, featuring a design language similar to the Land Cruise Se Concept.    And it's not even the first electric truck concept we've seen from Toyota. You might recall the Tacoma EV concept of 2021 and the more recent Hilux REVO BEV Concept.    But it's not exactly a big truck, in the same way as the Ford F-150 Lightning. Rather, the EPU concept is just about the size of the Ford Maverick, even though it has a longer wheelbase to accommodate the battery underneath.    This positioning actually makes quite a lot of sense, as automakers like Rivian, Ford, and GM have fielded pickups that are larger. The EPU, on the other hand, could be a smaller lifestyle truck for the casual truck buyer—a handy and still affordable alternative to the current Toyota bZ4X.    But is it something we could see here in the coming years?
