2027 Mercedes-Benz GLC 400 4MATIC Digs Deep in the Dunes Most modern crossover utility vehicles spend their entire lives driving slowly and securely from nice ranch-style homesites in the suburbs to the drop-off line at the Montessori school, to Trader Joe's, and then back again. Who knew any of them were capable of this? Especially on 20-inch wheels? The 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLC 400 4MATIC with EQ Technology (the longest name in automotive history) doesn't come out until the 2027 model year, arriving in showrooms in late 2026. And yet there we were, sand-blasting up and over the Dumont Dunes in the Eastern Mojave so far from civilization that even mosquitoes couldn't bear to be there. Read more here. |

| Polestar 4 Hits US Roads with No Rear Window but Plenty of Power The Polestar 4 has been on sale in Europe since early 2024, but we are just getting it in the US and Canada. It's an electric D-segment performance SUV (sized similarly to the Porsche Macan EV) from the company that already offers the Polestar 2 (a sedan with crossover cues) and Polestar 3 SUV. It's basically slotted between those two in length and height, said Ola Aldensjö, team lead and the vehicle's product manager. The Polestar 4 proved potent in both single- and dual-motor forms. In some ways, the single motor was the more impressive, since it carves some dollars out of the Polestar's always relatively stiff pricing (starting at $57,800), loses some weight, and increases range from 280 miles in the two-motor to 310. The AWD version starts at $64,300. Read more here. |

2026 Hyundai Ioniq 6 N: Hey, Seoul Sister When the Ioniq 5 N hatchback launched in 2024, Hyundai gave it an absurd assignment. Besides delivering usable driving range and furiously quick DC fast charging capability (top priorities for most EVs), it also had to entertain. So they created a faux internal-combustion mode, complete with virtual gearshifts and exterior speakers blaring bratty four-cylinder-esque noises to support the act. But even if you drove the 5 N in silent EV mode, it was uncommonly fun. The Ioniq 6 N arrives with the guts of the 5 N, but it is a better experience overall. The 6 N has a lower center of gravity and drag coefficient, uses the latest Pirelli summer tires, and gets revised steering and suspension to amp up feedback and responsiveness. Instead of trying to build the best imitation of a Porsche or a BMW, Hyundai looked inward and improved on its own best product. Read more here. |
