Car of the Week: 1979 Chevrolet K5 Blazer

The story of how a MoPar guy ended up with an immaculate "survivor" 1979 Chevy Blazer.

There had to be a reason for Dwight Anderson not to buy a stellar, time-capsule Chevrolet 1979 K5 Blazer when it fell into his lap last year.

But Anderson couldn't think of any.

A resident of rural Blue Mounds in south central Wisconsin, Anderson has an awesome fleet of four vintage MoPar muscle cars in his well-appointed country "man cave." It's hard to find a flaw in any of his MoPars, but Anderson had a hard time finding many flaws in the Blazer, either. It turned into one of those "too good to pass up" opportunities, so Anderson added the truck to his collection.

Thunderbird's recipe for success

How Ford mastered the sports-personal niche with the Thunderbird

Ford's Thunderbird started the sports-personal car trend that hit its stride in the '60s. Like other car labels, "sports-personal car" has strengths and weaknesses. Trade publications such as Ward's Automotive Yearbook originally called them "specialty cars." The "personal" separates these vehicles from "family" cars. They are mainly two-door cars with limited rear seating room. The "sports" part of the name infers a sporty character, although T-Bird-like '60s cars weren't slap-the-leather-and-damn-the-wind sports cars.

We'd Buy That: 1936 Ford four-door phaeton

This gem of a '36 Ford four-door phaeton is going under the hammer on June 26th at Vanderbrink Auctions' upcoming Dick Pellows Collection sale.

There are a whole bunch of cars that we'd like to have from Vanderbrink Auctions' upcoming Dick Pellows Collection sale. If we had to pick one, we might go with this sweet 1936 Ford four-door phaeton. Pellows got it from a Barrett-Jackson sale a few years back and it has been in a private museum recently. It's got 41,759 miles on the odometer and had some restoration work done quite a few years ago.

This baby checks all the boxes for a fun hobby car. We'd fold that top down and give that flathead V-8 as much exercise we could, every chance we got. Somebody is going to take it home on June 26, and hopefully they appreciate it as much as we would!
